Parental controls are special restrictions that allow the administrators to control the activities of individuals on a computer. Children and young adults use computers at home, in school, at the library, and elsewhere, and keeping them safe in all of these environments is what web filtering is all about. The term Internet filtering describes the technologies or software used to prevent user-access to specific sites or types of content available on the internet. If you can’t be with them online you might consider filtering Internet content with a parent control package.
If Parental Controls are applied and a user attempts to play or download content that exceeds the Parental Controls setting, the user will be prompted to enter a PIN to temporarily disable the Parental Controls. When you configure parental controls, you will be able to set up history reporting of all user activities. Frequent subjects of internet filtering software include web sites that are alleged to: Promote, enable, or discuss hacking, software piracy, criminal skills, or other potentially illegal acts, sexually explicit content, online gambling or gaming, promote or discuss politics, religion, or other topics of that nature.
Remember, while parental controls are improving, technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace and places strains on old systems. Freeware parental controls are quite rare birds and I have yet to find any that are useable.
Parental Controls are controls that help parents set limits on what their kids can see and do while they are online. As with all software, parental controls are no substitute for parental supervision, involvement, and education. So Parental Controls are intended to help parents to make the choices that are best for them and for their families. With the web changing daily, it’s good to know you can trust that your Internet filtering system is always on the lookout.
