I can't even begin to compare these pocket-size innovations to the old-school Polaroids. Talk about two different worlds! All you need in this day and age is a reasonably priced digital camera with a digital camera memory card. Just be sure you get the right size to suit your photo-taking addiction. The memory card is key!
Around 2001 I purchased a digital camera from Best Buy. It was the current Cannon Digital Elf at the time. My wife and I fell in love with it in the store. Finally we wouldn't have to deal with irksome film any longer. I always hated having to tote it to the drugstore and pay for picture development. This problem was virtually eliminated when the digital camera craze hit. Now you can purchase a small photo printer and develop your own pictures in the privacy of your own home. It really is a cinch. It's not too expensive to print out as many as you please. Now, back to the digital camera memory card. I say that this aspect of your picture-taking is crucial because it determines how many photos you can take and store at once. Let's say you have a 20 megabyte digital camera memory card. You're not going to get many pictures out of this. Maybe 15. Originally you could consider 1 MB per photo, but technology has changed, like it always does. Now the newer models of digital cameras have higher mega pixels. This is a good thing because it means crisper, clearer photographs. However, nicer pictures call for more space used on the digital camera memory card. Now days I go for the 256 MG, or even better, a 1 gigabyte memory card. These will allow you to have much more freedom with your picture-taking. You won't have to worry so much about downloading the photos to your PC or Mac before taking more pictures. Your card will have room for them.
The great news is the prices have gone down. Just like with all electronics, the prices plummet after something newer is released. So you can get a hefty memory card for your digital camera at a reasonable cost.
